Help Fund The Pink Lady Mural

A Global Symbol of Female Empowerment

In celebration of International Women's Day, we are launching our fundraising efforts to bring artist Jas Charanjiva's Pink Lady to our Divisadero + Hayes Street mural.

The Pink Lady (originally titled Don't Mess with Me) emerged from the nationwide outcry for women's safety and justice in India following the 2013 Nirbhaya case. She mysteriously appeared as paste-ups on Mumbai’s streets, where the public gave her the name Pink Lady. Over time, she has come to symbolize resilience and strength for those around the globe striving for a world free from violence and oppression. Rare Device believes that showcasing Jas and her artwork is exactly what our community needs right now as a bold visual reminder to not stay complacent during our current political climate.

All the proceeds raised for this fundraiser will go directly to pay the artist for their artwork and the materials used for this mural. By contributing, donors are not only supporting public art but also amplifying a movement that fights for a world free from violence and oppression.

About the Artist: California-raised, Jas Charanjiva has returned home after a journey that took her to New York City and later to Mumbai, India, where her art career gained significant momentum and recognition. She went on to co-found Kulture Shop, India’s leading curated platform for Indian graphic artists, alongside her husband and a close friend.
With social change as the driving force behind her street art, Jas has devoted part of her focus toward exploring how far a symbol, originally created to champion women’s empowerment in one region of the world, can resonate globally and inspire societal transformation through grassroots efforts. This initiative is known as The Pink Lady Project.
Jas has collaborated with several brands such as Adidas, Apple, Absolut, Dulux Paints, Guinness Beer, House of Vans, Rolling Stone Magazine and St-Art India. Her work has been featured by countless media outlets such as Vogue India, BBC, The Economist, Elle, Condé Nast Traveller; and international travel shows and documentaries.
