'Unpressed' by Mark Johnsen
Rare Device is pleased to announce our latest gallery show, Unpressed, by San Francisco-based artist Mark Johnsen. Unpressed is a series of geological paintings and collages created through the printmaking process of monotype. Mark deconstructs the printmaking process to create new forms and shadows that reveal an often unseen complexity in the medium.
Join Mark and the Rare Device staff on Friday evening, June 15th at Rare Device Flagship on Divisadero from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. for the opening reception. The show will be on view from Friday, June 15, 2018 - Monday, July 30, 2018.
About the Artist:
Mark Johnsen is a San Francisco based artist currently working in monotype. Using this process, he works reductively to scratch or wipe away extra information to reveal a clearer image. Mark holds a degree in Photography from California College of the Arts (2012) and has exhibited and lead workshops domestically as well as The United Kingdom, Istanbul, Japan, Canada, and New Zealand. In 2015 he collaborated with The North Face Japan to make a series of prints depicting the most geologically diverse highway in the United States, U.S. Route 395.
