Rare Device is thrilled to kick off a new year with a new gallery artist, The Okay Okay Club. Founded by French artist Audrey Marzin, The Okay Okay Club was born in Singapore in 2018, but is now based in San Francisco. Her work consists of naïve, minimalist painting, where bold colors and playful forms come together to express joy, warmth, and simplicity.

On Wood is a world celebrating nature through bold naive shapes. A joyful jungle full of colorful animals and blooming flowers inviting everyone to embrace their inner child and create their own little stories with the characters of the exhibition.

" For this exhibition I focused on an animal and flower theme. The inspiration came from a trip in Japan. I was struck by the idea of bringing more colors and brightness in our foggy San Francisco apartment and the idea of painting on wood to utilize the iconic material that makes up most of our city. The first element was the “tiger reading a book”. I wanted something that matched the cozy yet creative energy of our living room that also often acts as my working space.
From there I just embraced the idea of the jungle animals and explored different shapes and form."

Join us for the opening reception on Friday, January 16th, from 6-9pm, sponsored by our good friends at Fort Point Beer. We will be serving their non-alcoholic beers for those celebrating Dry January!
