When: Thursday, September 19th from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M.
Rare Device is pleased to welcome artist and author Windy Chien for the release of her new book, The Year of Knots. The book chronicles her yearlong knot-making project alongside tutorials aimed to inspire readers to create their own meditative practice. Windy is also bringing along several of her original fiber pieces, known as Circuit Boards, for sale during a single-night gallery show.
About the book:
Give yourself permission to reinvent, to prioritize creativity, and to take an artistic leap, all through the simple and beautiful practice of making knots. In The Year of Knots, artist Windy Chien describes how her yearlong knot-making project led her on a path of discovery. The book combines projects, tutorials, and transformative personal stories, all aimed at inspiring readers to make knotting—or creativity in general—part of a meditative daily practice. At the heart of the story is the simple, empowering idea that a daily five-minute practice is all the time you need to make a life-changing creative leap.
About the author:
Artist Windy Chien is best known for her 2016 work, The Year Of Knots, in which she learned a new knot every day for a year. Her work ranges in size from a knot that can fit in the palm of a child's hand to majestic, room-sized installations that are sought after by private collectors. Following long careers at Apple and as owner of legendary music shop Aquarius Records, she launched her studio in 2015. Select clients include IBM, the Four Seasons, and the National Geographic Society, and her work has been covered by Wired, The New York Times and Martha Stewart.
Join Windy and the Rare Device staff for a book singing, meet and greet, and single-night gallery show on Thursday, September 19th from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M.
