Hand-dyed and screen printed bandana of a map of San Francisco is depicted with a compass rose. This bandana has frayed edges - each is unique with slight variations of color and design. A numbered card in the series is included with each bandana.
Land is what we all share as we move about our daily lives and distant travels. Land is also what divides us. Wars are fought over borders, nationalities are the basis for hate crimes- the ownership of the space we inhabit has caused endless strife and struggle throughout history. To examine this tendency of human nature, Jennifer Maravillas is creating a series of bandanas depicting maps and land from across the world. Her aim is to inspire the viewer to find a new vista from which to explore their relationship to the land and the people that share it.
