We just seem to have missed Canada Day…but we have new products from Canadian designers in nevertheless. Very cute stationery has arrived from the Regional Assembly of Text, a little shop I would dearly like to visit someday in Vancouver. We have packs of small notecards and button-adorned greeting cards that are great for the newlyweds in town.

We also have our first batch of Fall clothing (!) from Kersh. I know, it’s only July, but the fashion world deems this the start of the fall season. Since summers in San Francisco are so chilly, you can actually wear these pieces right now. Kersh has a very well-priced line of knitwear that is super light and soft, a cashmere blend - we have two sweaters with unique details and some circular scarves (the ends are sewn together so you can’t lose it) too.

I alternate between liking very bright strong colors and very subtle ones. The bag pictured falls into the latter camp, the designer calls this color “grey-khaki” but I would called it more of a washed mocha shade myself. Regardless, it is lovely, and it is the last one! I got this style for myself in a strong burnt orange and I love it a lot.

More subtle-colored bags arrived this week from Dean Accessories also. The teardrop shape is very popular and we got one made from a recycled leather jacket, which is fun.

Paper goods are rolling in as well. New Nantaka Joy and Pancake and Franks styles, fresh from the Stationery Show, are here. We have a ton of options for birthdays, weddings and other celebrations.

It is no secret I think that Rare Device is owned and run by a crew of gay and gay-friendly ladies - we will be CLOSED on Sunday in honor of Pride. That is the day that the giant parade happens and I am sure you would much rather be celebrating than shopping. We will be open on Saturday however, if you want to swing on by.

We will also be closed on Friday, the Fourth of July, in an attempt to see some fireworks (very hard in foggy San Francisco, actually).

We are so happy to have a new batch of jewelry from Miss Laura of Prismera Designs! She sent us her new work in black and gold, very dramatic and dressy summertime gear.

We have some beautiful postcards from Laura too…and new prints in from Matte Stephens as well. It’s a lovely Saturday!

Just a quick note to say we got in many excellent books today, some art (like Andrew Schoultz) and some design (like Illustration Play, below). Will get these in the webshop ASAP.

Also, three cheers for all the gay and lesbian newlyweds in California! We are having fun seeing carloads of “just marrieds” go by. We are seeing much interest in our ring collection and are working to add more to choose from. We just got some tongue-in-cheek sterling silver ziptie rings in from Metalnat of Brooklyn that are a lot of fun. Look for that on our webshop soon too!
